Country music legend Willie Nelson was traveling back on his tour bus from California, where he had spent his Thanksgiving, to Texas when he was stopped at a routine check point.

While officers were checking out his bus at the check point in Sierra Blanca, Texas they noticed a suspicious odor. Upon entering and searching the tour bus, the U.S. Border Patrol found 6 oz of marijuana.

Nelson was arrested on the scene along with 3 other people. He was held briefly and then posted a $2,500 bond.

Nelson is the co-chair of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws advisory board. He immediately admitted that the marijuana was his. He has long advocated for the legalization of marijuana.

Sheriff Arvin West told the newspaper, “It’s kind of surprising, but I mean we treat him like anybody else, he could get 180 days in county jail, and if he does, I’m going to make him cook and clean.”

Since Nelson was released on bond, it is not expected to interfere with is tour. If he is convicted he could spend 180 days in the Hudspeth County jail.

This is nothing new for Nelson. Back in January, 6 of his band members were given citations for possession of moonshine and marijuana. And in 2006, Nelson and 4 others on his bus were given citations when authorities seized nearly 1.5 pounds of marijuana and 3 ounces of hallucinogenic mushrooms.
