On Thursday actor Wesley Snipes, 48, reported to a minimum security federal prison, McKean Federal Correctional Institution, in Lewis Run, Pennsylvania. He will be serving a 3 year sentence for failing to file his taxes in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

Back in 2008, Snipes was convicted in Ocala, Florida of three misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file income taxes. He has unsuccessfully spent the last 2 years trying to get the ruling appealed.

Edmond Ross, who is a spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Prison, said that Snipes is definitely going to one of the nicer prisons, one that has been named “Club Fed.” At noon on Thursday, he donned his prison attire and was processed. After his inmate orientation he was to be assigned a bunk.

Since 1999 prosecutors argued that Snipes has earned $40 million, but still did not file those tax returns. Snipes argues that it was his adviser’s fault for not filing.

Larry King asked Snipes if he was nervous about going to prison and he did admit he was a little nervous about it. Especially considering the amount of time he is going to be away from his family, away from a job that he loves and not able to provide for his family.
