The latest report stakes an Apple announcement of a Verizon iPhone just in time for Valentine’s Day. This time, it was Bloomberg Businessweek that issued a report about the coming debut of a Verizon compatible iPhone.

Such an announcement would end a long run by AT&T of exclusive access to the iPhone. The device was first released on their network back in 2007. If Apple decides to share the wealth by releasing a Verizon iPhone, this could pose some serious problems for AT&T.

Over the last couple of years, AT&T has been plagued with problems on its cellular network. Everything from outages to dropped calls, poor reception and poor data connectivity have caused people to question the reliability and quality of their network. This has led a number of bad press pieces highlighting the problems with the company. One, a reader poll completed by Consumer Reports showed AT&T as receiving the distinction of worst carrier in the U.S.

On the flip side, Verizon has built a reputation of reliability. However bringing the Verizon iPhone to market could result in similar growing pains for the provider.

An uncertainty is how many current iPhone users would switch from AT&T to Verizon. There is expense and hassle associated with switching carriers, which could end up working in AT&T’s favor. The carrier also locked many iPhone users into additional two year contracts through early upgrades to the iPhone 4.
