Verizon Wirless stores will be opening an hour early on October 28th to celebrate the arrivalĀ of the Apple iPad on the Verizon Wireless network. This has been a much anticipated day for both Verizon as well as Apple fans.

The unforunate news is it really isn’t all that great.

Apple isn’t releasing a CDMA version of the iPad that will work on the Verizon network. Instead, Verizon will be packaging the Wifi version of the iPad with a Verizon MiFi 2200 mobile hotspot. This offers the ability for the iPad to utilize the Verizon network, but it’s hardly revolutionary or exciting.

In fact, this exact setup has been available from day one of the iPad’s release earlier this year. And not just on the Verizon network, but Sprint, TMobile and others.

What is indeed exciting about this Apple announcement is that this seems to be the beginning of what many are hoping will be a long and prosperous relationship between Apple and Verizon. A relationship that will hopefully result in a Verizon version of the iPhone, as well as other Apple devices.

This would seem to be in line with the heavy rumors circulating about a Verizon iPhone coming early in 2011. Only time will tell, but this bodes well towards accomplishing that goal. At least on the surface.
