Target Stores to Market the Apple iPad

Heading into the holiday shopping season, U.S. retailer Target Corp. announced on Friday that it plans to offer the Apple iPad tablet computer starting October 3rd. Target is the second largest discount retail chain in the U.S.. The company  currently operates 1,743 stores throughout the United States

To date, Apple has sold its iPad online from the Apple website and other online stores, as well as through consumer electronics merchants such as Best Buy. The tablet PC has also been sold at several smaller vendors through Amazon.com’s online shopping site. However, Apple is now looking to broaden its customer base so that, like the i Phone and iPod, the iPad will soon be available for purchase in brick and mortar retail stores.

Also, of interest to bargain hunters who don’t mind waiting, starting on October 17, buyers who use Target credit cards will qualify for a 5 percent special discount on the purchase of an iPad.

Target will market all six versions of the iPad – both Wi-Fi and 3G iPads in the three memory the16GB, 32GB and 64GB models. Prices start at $499.
