Pizza, Beer And The Super Bowl

Beer and pizza, two staples for Super Bowl Sunday parties can be paired nicely together with a little thought

It’s probably no surprise that one of the biggest pizza days for the pizza industry is Super Bowl Sunday. Papa John’s will ship over 2 million pounds of cheese and 350,000 pounds of pepperoni to the chain’s 3,200 stores.

Pizza is the perfect party food. It’s easy to share, easy on the pocketbook and best of all, everyone likes it.

The average pizzeria will see a 35% boost in sales on Sunday when the Packers take on the Steelers, February 6. Although there are starting to be trendier, more foodie topping options like sun dried tomatoes, pepperoni and sausage still seems to be the most ordered pizzas.

Pizzerias have been working on inventory and hourly plans since December to get ready for the big day.

You can’t have pizza without beer. One of the biggest Super Bowl dilemmas is what beer to drink during the game.

Beer makers already know what some good choices are. They say if you really want to watch the whole game, make sure you go with something like a pale ale which will allow you to enjoy the entire event. If you intend to sleep through the half time show, then you can bump it up to a Belgian-style beer.

Brew masters also say what food you serve will help you choose what type of beer you serve. Lagers go better with lighter fare while ale’s will help cut the spiciness of hot chicken wings.

East End Brewing Company is ready if Pittsburgh wins the Super Bowl. They will break out “Our gratitude barely wine” which will be a great end to a winning game at 11.5 percent alcohol.

Either way the pizza and beer industry are sure to gain from this event.
