Larry King Live wrapped up 25 years of being on the air Thursday with a big send off show

Larry King wrapped up a 25 year run interviewing all sorts of guests in an intimate setting with just a microphone and desk between most of them. The Larry King Live show has been one of the most watched and beloved American talk shows in recent history.

The King of interviewing didn’t go out without fanfare though. The final show, which aired Thursday night, was watched by well over 2 million viewers making it a ratings winner. The show featured comedian Bill Maher and television host Ryan Seacrest. Also in the lineup for the evening was a serenade from Tony Bennett, a special message from President Barack Obama, and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Governor Schwarzenegger made a special proclamation while on the show of a “Larry King Day.”

During his career in broadcasting, lasting 53 years, King amassed some serious accomplishments. Several of the notable ones include 50,000 interview, an Emmy and a Peabody. King has 6,120 shows in the CNN show archives, several of which won him 10 Cable ACE Awards over the years. He also made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest running show with the same host in the same time slot.

King is not done for good. He will still be working for CNN on special projects.

Thanks for the great run Larry!
