The Shark Shootout held some great golf for PGA Tour players in the 54 hole format

Hosted by long time golfing great Greg Norman, the Shark Shootout is being played on The Ritz-Carlton’s Tiburon Golf Club course in Naples, Florida for the 10th year. It’s a PGA Tour sanctioned event with an unusual format. Each day the 12 two man teams play a different format.

Saturday was a Better Ball format. Each teammate played his own ball for an entire hole. The lowest score after holing out went on the team’s scorecard for that hole.

Defending champions Jerry Kelly and Steve Stricker were atop the leaderboard for a second day, this time joined by Fred Funk and Kenny Perry. Funk and Perry wrapped up today’s round with a 10 under 62. Kelly and Stricker shot 9 under 63 for the second day in a row.

One of the neat things about this event is the family participation as caddies. Funk and Kelly both had their sons on their bags this year.

Sunday promises to hold some great golf with inclement weather potentially coming. The format for the day will be a Scramble. Each player will hit a drive for the hole with the best drive being used as the location for the second shot. This process continues through the completion of the hole.
