Brett Favre, 41, sustained two fractures in his left foot last week, and even though he is in a walking cast, he is hoping to possibly play on Sunday against the New England Patriots.

Doctors have told Favre that he will not do further damage to his heel bone. If he wants to play, it’s up to him to determine whether or not he can deal with the pain.

Vikings Coach Brad Childress said he wouldn’t put it past Favre to play, “He’s going to make the push like all of our guys do to Sunday. But I don’t have any crystal ball or anything like that.”

On Wednesday, Favre did not practice and they are uncertain if he will try on Thursday. The longer he goes without practicing the less his chances are that he is going to play.

Right now Favre has played 291 consecutive games, which is an NFL record. To continue to build on that record does appear to be in jeopardy at this time.

“I’m very proud of the streak, but it probably should have ended a long time ago,” Favre said. “I don’t want to go out there for one play. I don’t want to go out there for three plays. If I’m able to play, I want to play the whole game, and give us a chance to win.”

Tarvaris Jackson, who is the backup quarterback, has been practicing since Favre has been out. Last season he threw 21 passes, but has not had the opportunity to start since a January 2009 loss to Philadelphia.

Favre said he is more concerned with winning and not as concerned with continuing on his playing streak.
