Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie Exchange Marriage Vows

Hilary Duff Marries Mike Comrie

Newlyweds Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie

Actress and singer Hilary Duff and NHL player Mike Comrie were wed on Saturday in a luxurious sunset ceremony in Santa Barbara, California.

Comrie, 29, played for the Oilers in his hometown of Edmonton, Alberta last season. He and Ms. Duff, 22, met at an Idaho resort last October. After a whirlwind romance, he reportedly proposed to Duff with a $1 million engagement ring while on vacation in Hawaii last February.

In a report in Us magazine last year, Duff was quoted as saying that Comrie is a “great guy” and that she “never met anyone who could say a bad word about him.”

The teen star of TV’s “Lizzie McGuire”, and both Cheaper by the Dozen films, joins an impressive lineup of Hollywood and hockey pairings.

On July 10th, former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood and Ottawa Senators star Mike Fisher tied the knot in a ceremony in Georgia.

Gena Lee Nolin of Baywatch fame has been married to retired hockey player Cale Hulse since 2004. Likewise, actress Candace Cameron of TV’s “Full House” has been wed to retired NHL star Valeri Bure since 1996.

Not all Hollywood – Hockey romances have endured without incurring major misconduct penalties.

In 2008, Ron Greschner, long time NY Rangers star, was sued by his ex-wife, supermodel and actress Carol Alt, for $9 million, a decade after their split. Another Ranger player, Sean Avery, known as “the most hated player in the NHL”, received a six game suspension in 2008 when he publicly insulted his former girlfriend, actress Elisha Cuthbert, calling her “sloppy seconds” when she began dating Calgary Flames defenseman Dion Phaneuf.
