The previous high in the franchise for opening weekend was $102.7 million for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire back in 2005.

In this first of two parts which make up the final of JK Rowling’s novels, Lord Voldemort has taken control the wizarding world thanks in part to the help of his evil henchmen. Harry, Hermione and Ron seek out and attempt to destroy horcruxes out in the world, away from Hogwarts.
