Real estate tycoon Donald Trump, has proposed  purchasing  the site of the planned Islamic community center and mosque close to Ground Zero adding a guaranteed 25 percent profit to the current owner of the property.

The involvement of the controversial businessman is just the most recent unexpected turn in the mosque dispute on a day of inconsistent rumors concerning the project.

Trump’s offer was made under the proviso that any Muslim center built must be located at least five blocks away from the Ground Zero site where practically 3,000 people were killed in the al Qaeda terror attacks on September 11, 2001.

The offer was made to Hisham Elzanaty, the  Egyptian-born New York entrepreneur, a 25 per cent profit beyond the $4.8 million purchase price that he paid for the property, located two blocks from the Ground Zero site.

In his letter to Elzanay, Trump wrote, “I am making this offer as a resident of New York and citizen of the United States, not because I think the location is a spectacular one (because it is not), but because it will end a very serious, inflammatory, and highly divisive situation.”

Earlier, Azanaty told the Associated Press that his investment consortium had already received purchase offers of three times that amount for the property. “Develop it, raze it, sell it,” he said. “If someone wants to give me 18 or 20 million dollars today, it’s all theirs.”

Trump’s offer received no immediate answer from  Elzanaty. However, both the imam and the site’s owner were adament that preparations for the mosque and community center would proceed as intended.
