It was announced earlier this week that Mel Gibson would not be making a cameo appearance in the sequel to the movie “The Hangover.” Now Warner Bros. Pictures and director Todd Phillips say he won’t be appearing in “The Hangover 2″ after all.

Phillips said the producers supported the decision to have Gibson play the role of a tattoo artist in Thailand. But what he did not have was the full support of the crew.

“I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of Jeff Robinov and his team,” Phillips said in a statement, referring to the Warner Bros. production chief. “But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew.”

“TheHangover 2” is going to reunite Bradley Cooper, Justin Bartha, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, all who originally starred in the Summer 2009 blockbuster.

Gibson has not been seen much since threatening his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva this summer. There are audio recordings of him yelling racist rants against her.

It was just 4 years ago that Gibson was on an anti-Semitic tirade against police after having been pulled over and arrested for driving under the influence.
