The much anticipated installment in the “Call Of Duty” video game series is finally hitting the streets today to the pleasure of first person shooter game addicts everywhere. “Call of Duty: Black Ops” was developed by the Treyarch team. The same ones behind “Call Of Duty 3” and “Call Of Duty: World At War.”

The star of this installment’s story line is Alex Mason, a special ops soldier. Most of the game play setting is centered around the time period before and during the Vietnam War. Reviewers are agreeing that the best game experience is achieved playing firsthand.

Several new features have been added as well as the return of some fan favorites. Two multiplayer modes are sure to please game players: adversarial multiplayer mode and zombie survival mode for play with up to four people.

“Call of Duty: Black Ops” is available for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s Playstation 3 (PS3) game consoles, as well as PC, Wii and DS. Play across platforms has been reported as solid with each taking advantage of their strong points. Preference will likely simply depend on which system is readily available.

One glitch being reported is the multiplayer mode played online. Random game party disconnections and regular lag have become the norm for online players. Likely growing pains that Activision has yet to work through.
