Apple Inc. announced on Wednesday an update to it’s Apple iLife software application suite. iLife contains three applications that include GarageBand, iPhoto and iMovie. The software suite is aimed at amateur and recreational media creators who use Apple Mac computers.

Over the years iLife has set the standard for powerful creation of photos, movies and music in a simple to use format that has very little learning curve. It has become a solid performer for Apple and has lured many to the Mac platform, especially in the home environment. iLife is included for free with every new Mac purchased from Apple.

The updated applications are sure to maintain that standard and propel the product forward.

iPhoto ’11 adds features to the popular image management application such as a new full screen mode for viewing and editing photos and simpler sharing options with integration into Facebook or emailing of photos with new themes applied to the photos. A slideshow feature has also been added.

iMovie ’11 makes it easier than ever to turn videos into mini movies or trailers with 15 new genre type templates to apply to projects that are complete with soundtracks, titles and graphics. A new People Finder feature can analyze video footage and mark portions that contain faces to make it easier and quicker to find the clips you’re looking for.

The new version of GarageBand ’11 offers budding or recreational musicians two new tools for fixing or simply changing the timing of recordings: Flex Time and Groove Matching. With Flex Time, musicians can move, stretch or shorten individual notes with the click of a mouse. Groove Matching lets you select a particular track as the “Groove Track” with the rest of the recording automatically matching up to the rhythmic feel of the chosen track.

iLife ’11 is on sale now for $49 in Apple retail stores, Apple Authorized Resellers and online at Apple.com.
