Acer is jumping into the tablet market with three devices of it's own, hoping to challenge the Apple iPad

Acer announced it is throwing it’s hat into the ring with not one, but three new tablet devices. The computer manufacturer, the second largest in the world, pulled the wraps off the three devices aimed at carving a slice out of the tablet market that Apple has dominated lately with it’s iPad device.

Two of Acer’s offerings will feature the Google Android operating system and come in two sizes: a 7 inch display and a 10.1 inch display. The third will feature a 10.1 inch display only and will run a version of Microsoft’s Windows operating system.

Although the tablet market is still a somewhat undiscovered one, Acer hopes that its new devices will entice users looking to bridge the gap between the smartphone and laptop. The company reports it hopes to secure about 10 percent of the sector.

One ace up Acer’s sleeve is the price of the new devices. It anticipates pricing to run from $299 to $699, offering consumers a more cost effective option to the Apple iPad.

All three of the devices will include Wi-Fi connectivity as well as a 3G connection, giving users Internet access on the go.

The Microsoft powered device will be available as soon as February 2011, with the two Android based tablets arriving to market in April 2011.
