51 Yard Field Goal Gives UCLA The Victory

rose bowl 2010

This year's Rose Bowl came down to the last play, twice, in the game

With just 1 second left on the clock, Kai Forbath, kicker for the UCLA Bruins, was given a second chance. He did what he had to do and kicked a 51 yard field goal to win the Rose Bowl game on Saturday.

Backing up one play in the game, with just 4 seconds left, the Bruins set up for the final play of the game in official time. Randall Carroll ended up out of bounds to stop the clock, but officials said he didn’t get out of bounds soon enough and time was up. Both teams thought they were headed into overtime.

The Bruins asked for an instant replay, and sure enough they were given 1 second on the clock and a chance to pull out a win.

Forbath then kicked the winning field goal. Until that point Forbath wasn’t doing very well. He had already missed a 49 yard and a 46 yard kick.

The entire game was tight the whole way through, with both teams playing impressively.

The loss by Oregon State leaves them with a record of 3-1 in the Pac-10 and 4-4 overall. The win for UCLA helped them improve to 2-4 in the Pac-10 and 4-5 overall. This game also broke a 3 game losing streak for UCLA.
